How to become cabin crew in Pakistan

A thin domestic market and a well-worn Gulf corridor - the passport and the English are the real gates.

🇵🇰

Pakistan's domestic cabin crew market is small. PIA hires irregularly and has been through repeated restructuring; Airblue, Serene Air, AirSial and Fly Jinnah are the more consistent recruiters, and Fly Jinnah in particular (an Air Arabia joint venture) has been building crew numbers. Batch sizes are modest, announcements come with short notice, and each opening draws very large numbers of applicants.

For that reason the realistic ambition for most Pakistani cabin crew is the Gulf. Emirates, Qatar Airways, Etihad, flydubai, Air Arabia and the Saudi carriers all employ Pakistanis in significant numbers, and the corridor is well established, with family and community networks in Dubai, Sharjah, Doha and Jeddah that make the move less daunting than it looks from Karachi or Lahore.

Two things separate successful Pakistani applicants from the rest, and neither is charm. The first is spoken English at the level required to run a safety briefing and de-escalate a passenger in a noisy cabin - not exam English. The second is the travel document: a machine-readable Pakistani passport with real validity, and for anyone previously employed abroad, a clean exit record. Gulf recruiters see plenty of capable Pakistani candidates fail at exactly those two points.

What Pakistan employers and recruiters expect

Age

Typically 19-28 for Pakistani carriers; 21+ at joining for Emirates and Qatar Airways.

Education

Intermediate (FA/FSc, 12 years) minimum for local carriers; a bachelor's degree is common among successful applicants and helps in shortlisting but is not a formal requirement.

Height / reach

Local carriers generally state around 160 cm for women and 170 cm for men. Gulf carriers measure 212 cm arm reach on tiptoe (Emirates, Qatar) or 210 cm (Etihad).

Language

Fluent English plus Urdu. English is assessed on spoken clarity under pressure, not on certificates - this is the most common cause of rejection for Pakistani candidates.

Medical

PCAA-recognised cabin crew medical for local carriers, including vision, hearing and general fitness plus swim ability. Gulf carriers run their own pre-joining medical, which includes a dental check.

Documents

Machine-readable Pakistani passport with 12+ months validity, CNIC, educational certificates, and a police character certificate for airport ID.

What you can realistically earn

Trainee / probation cabin crew (Airblue, AirSial, Fly Jinnah)

PKR 25,000 - 40,000 per month

The training and probation period is deliberately low-paid. Roughly USD 90-140 at about PKR 285 to the dollar. Treat this as a short phase, not a salary.

Confirmed local cabin crew

PKR 55,000 - 90,000 per month

Basic plus flying-hour pay and layover allowances. Roughly USD 190-320. International sectors carry foreign-currency per diems that meaningfully raise the total.

Gulf carrier (Emirates / Qatar), junior

AED 10,000 - AED 12,500 per month equivalent

Roughly PKR 775,000-970,000 a month equivalent, tax-free, with accommodation and transport provided. The scale of the difference is why the Gulf dominates Pakistani applications.

The route to a Gulf or international carrier

Emirates and Qatar Airways hold open days and assessment days in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad, announced only on emiratesgroupcareers.com and qatarairways.com/careers. Because events in Pakistan are less frequent than in India or the Philippines, many Pakistani candidates travel to Dubai on a visit visa to attend an assessment there - that is legitimate and common, but it is expensive and you should confirm the event on the airline's official site before you fly, because fake "open day" announcements targeting Pakistani applicants are widespread. What eliminates candidates: arm reach short of 212 cm (practise on tiptoe against a wall), English that is fluent on paper but hesitant under pressure, grooming and dental condition at the final medical stage, and visible tattoos or scars. In the group exercise, the specific behaviour scored is facilitation - propose a structure, invite a quieter person in, keep to time. Being the loudest person in the room is scored as a negative, not a positive.

Your step-by-step plan

  1. 01Get a machine-readable Pakistani passport with at least a year of validity before doing anything else - the passport, not the interview, is where most Pakistani timelines break.
  2. 02Work on spoken English specifically: safety announcements read aloud, role-played passenger complaints, timed group discussions. This is the highest-return preparation you can do.
  3. 03Measure your arm reach on tiptoe against a wall and check tattoo and scar placement against a short-sleeve uniform line.
  4. 04Apply directly on the Airblue, Serene Air, AirSial and Fly Jinnah careers pages and watch for batch announcements, which come with little notice.
  5. 05Register on emiratesgroupcareers.com and qatarairways.com/careers and monitor for Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad and Dubai events. Verify every event on the airline's own domain before booking travel.
  6. 06Prepare a single-page CV with a professional photograph, your height and reach, languages, and concrete customer-facing examples - Gulf recruiters skim, and a cluttered CV is discarded.

Avoid these traps

  • Fake Gulf recruitment is the dominant scam targeting Pakistani applicants. Agents advertise "Emirates cabin crew jobs" and charge PKR 100,000-500,000 for visa processing, medicals or a guaranteed interview. No airline charges a candidate anything, ever, and none recruits Pakistani cabin crew through an agent. Victims are often left on a genuine but useless visit visa in Dubai with no job.
  • Unlicensed "aviation academies" in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad sell cabin crew diplomas with implied placement. Airlines train their own crew after selection and do not recognise these certificates. Money spent there is better spent on the passport, English tuition and travel to a genuine assessment.
  • Verify any overseas employment offer through the Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment before paying anyone anything. Legitimate overseas employment promoters are licensed and registered; a WhatsApp contact with a Dubai number is not.
  • Beware offers that are structured as something other than a cabin crew job - "ground staff with promotion to cabin crew after six months" is a standard framing for a job that is neither. Get the actual role, employer and contract in writing on company letterhead from a company domain email.

Frequently asked questions

How to become an air hostess in Pakistan after intermediate?

Apply directly to Airblue, Serene Air, AirSial or Fly Jinnah when they announce cabin crew batches, and to Emirates or Qatar Airways open days in Karachi, Lahore or Islamabad. You need FA/FSc, fluent spoken English, minimum height or 212 cm arm reach for Gulf carriers, a machine-readable passport and medical fitness. No private academy course is required by any airline.

What is the air hostess salary in Pakistan per month?

Trainees earn roughly PKR 25,000-40,000 during probation, rising to about PKR 55,000-90,000 as confirmed crew with flying pay and allowances. International sectors add foreign-currency per diems. A Gulf carrier package is roughly PKR 775,000-970,000 equivalent per month, tax-free with accommodation - which is why so many Pakistani crew move.

Which airline is best for Pakistani cabin crew - PIA, Airblue or Emirates?

Emirates and Qatar pay several times more and provide accommodation, but they are the hardest to enter and require relocation. Airblue and Fly Jinnah are far more accessible and give you a real airline safety qualification and flying record - which is the single most useful thing you can bring to a Gulf application two years later. Starting local is not a defeat; it is the standard path.
