Lufthansa Cabin Crew

Lufthansa is one of Europe's largest and most structured cabin crew employers, with crew based at Frankfurt and Munich flying a network of roughly 200 destinations on everything from A320s to A380s and the new Allegris-cabin A350s. The airline has been hiring cabin crew at scale since 2022 — well over 2,000 per year across the group — and unlike many legacy carriers it takes complete beginners, training them at its own academies with a paid course before their first flight.

The defining feature of life at Lufthansa is the tariff structure. Pay, rosters and progression are governed by collective agreements negotiated with the UFO cabin crew union, which delivered phased raises through 2024-2026 and protects predictable step increases with seniority. Junior crew start on modest gross pay around EUR 2,300-2,600 a month plus flight allowances, but the trajectory matters: long-serving purser-level crew with long-haul seniority reach comfortable middle-class German incomes, with pension contributions and job security that low-cost competitors cannot match.

Trade-offs are real: German income tax and social contributions take a substantial bite, new joiners often start on short-haul with part-time contract percentages common, and Frankfurt seniority lists move slowly. Crew culture is professional and rule-bound — this is an airline of procedures and works councils rather than start-up energy — but for crew who want a stable, decades-long flying career in Europe with union protection, Lufthansa remains one of the strongest options on the continent.
