Finnair Cabin Crew

Finnair, one of the world's oldest continuously operating airlines, bases all its cabin crew at Helsinki-Vantaa and built its modern identity on the fast northern route between Europe and Asia. Russian airspace closure forced a painful strategic rebuild after 2022 — longer Asian routings, new emphasis on North America, India and the Middle East — but the airline has stabilised, its A350 fleet remains the long-haul backbone, and in August 2026 it opened its first significant cabin crew recruitment in years for Helsinki-based crew starting in 2027.

Employment reflects Finnish norms: collective agreements with the SLSY cabin crew union, transparent pay grades, and strong social protections. New crew start on all-in gross income of roughly EUR 2,400-2,600 a month including flight allowances — netting around EUR 1,900-2,100 — while experienced long-haul crew and pursers reach EUR 3,300-4,600 gross with allowances. Not spectacular money, but Finland's functioning welfare state, Helsinki's manageable (if not cheap) living costs, and rosters that respect rest push overall quality of life above the payslip.

Crew describe Finnair's culture as calm, low-drama and quietly professional — very Finnish. Long-haul rotations to Tokyo, Seoul, Singapore, Bangkok and US cities bring proper layovers, while the European network is efficient day-return flying. The constraints: a single base with a small operation means promotion is slow, hiring windows are rare and heavily oversubscribed, and Finnish-language skills, while not always mandatory, are a strong practical advantage in a mostly domestic workforce.
