Turkish Airlines and the Istanbul Airport at 3am in 2026: the crew transport from the Asian side, the new metro
-
#1 THY narrow body, and the 3am crew transport thread on here is from the first year of the new airport. It has changed with the metro and the shuttle network and the applicants still read the old version. Here is the 2026 commute for the THY crew from both sides of the city.
The airport
Istanbul Airport, the new one, on the far European side north of the city, 40 to 90 minutes from most of where crew live depending on the hour and the side of the Bosphorus. The crew sign on at every hour and the 3am and 4am sign ons are the commute problem.
The metro
The M11 line to the airport from Gayrettepe (the European side business district) is the thing that changed the commute: 35 minutes from Gayrettepe, with the connections from the European side districts. It runs early and late and the crew on the European side near the line use it for the sign ons it covers. The 3am sign on is still before the first train for most, which is where the shuttles come in.
The shuttle buses
THY runs crew shuttles from collection points across the city at the sign on hours the metro does not cover, and the Havaist and Havabus public shuttles run 24 hours from the main districts. The crew who live near a collection point (Bakırköy, Beşiktaş, Kadıköy for the Asian side, Ataşehir) use the THY shuttle for the 3am and the metro for the day. The foreign crew in their first year learn the collection points the hard way and the second year live next to one.
The Asian side
The Kadıköy and Ataşehir crew cross the Bosphorus by the shuttle on the bridges at 3am in 40 minutes and in two hours at 8am. The Asian side crew at THY live near the shuttle points or they do not last. Ayşe's Pegasus thread said nobody crosses the Bosphorus to work; the THY Asian side crew do, by shuttle, at the hours the bridges are empty.
How the foreign crew stopped losing sleep
By moving to the European side near the airport road or the metro, as Zoe's accommodation thread said, after the first year of the Bosphorus flat and the 4am taxi. The crew who live in Başakşehir or near the M11 have a 35 minute commute at any hour and a view of nothing. The crew who live in Cihangir have the view and the 90 minutes. The second year is when the view loses.
The honest commute in 2026
Better than the first year of the airport by a lot. The metro for the day sign ons, the THY shuttle for the night ones, the collection points as the thing to live near. The Istanbul crew who have it figured out spend 35 minutes each way and sleep. The ones who do not spend their sleep on the road.
For the new joiners and the foreign crew
Ask the base for the shuttle collection points before you rent. Live near one or near the M11. The Bosphorus view is for year three when you have the roster to enjoy it.

#2 British at THY, and the M11 changed my life in year two after the Bosphorus flat year one. Thirty five minutes from Gayrettepe at any hour the metro runs and the THY shuttle for the 3am. Skyhigh has the 2026 commute. The old thread should link here.

#3 Pegasus Sabiha Gökçen, and the THY Asian side crew crossing by shuttle at 3am is the exception to my rule and a fair one: the bridges are empty at 3am and the shuttle does it in 40. At 8am it is the two hours. The hour decides the Bosphorus.

#4 THY wide body, and the wide body crew have the sign ons at civilised hours more often and the metro covers most of mine. The narrow body crew have the 3am and the shuttle. Skyhigh's commute is the narrow body commute and it is the harder one.

#5 German applicant with Turkish family, and the collection points before renting is the practical sentence I will use when the offer comes. Başakşehir near the M11 and a view of nothing. Year three for the view.
-
#6 THY, and the Cihangir view versus the Başakşehir 35 minutes is the choice every Istanbul crew member makes in year two and the sleep wins. The view is for the days off and the days off are better with sleep.

#7 Korean Air, and the three Koreans at THY live near the M11 for exactly this reason and the one who lived in Kadıköy in year one is the one who nearly left. The commute is the Istanbul test before the language test.
