Delta and unions, why flight attendants are not unionised and what that means

Union rep in Norway, curious. Delta flight attendants are not unionised, unlike United and American. What does that mean in practice for a Delta crew member?

In practice: pay and rules are set by the company rather than a contract, and Delta has historically kept pay at or above the unionised carriers to keep it that way, plus profit sharing. No union rep in a disciplinary meeting, though. There have been organising drives. People have views both ways; the pay is good, the protection is what you would expect without a contract.
