Qatar Airways from Hyderabad in year three: the India routes from economy, the Hyderabadi crew in Doha
-
#1 Qatar, from Hyderabad, three years, economy, and the Qatar Hyderabad thread on here is the event and the call. This is year three: the India routes from the economy galley, the Hyderabadi community in Doha and the thing that the Indian crew at Qatar actually fight about, which is the biryani.
The India routes from economy
Doha to Hyderabad, Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Kochi, Trivandrum, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Goa, Amritsar, Lucknow and more. Four hours, the A320s and the wide bodies, full cabins of the Gulf Indian diaspora going home and the families going to the Gulf for work. The Indian crew are put on the India routes by the pursers for the Hindi and the Telugu and the Malayalam and the Tamil, exactly as the Arabic speakers are put on the Arabic routes. Row 30 calls for the grandmother in Telugu are my speciality.
The Hyderabad route
Held by the seniors, as every home route is, and I have held it a handful of times in three years. The commute on staff travel is the realistic way: four hours, a two day block, every month or six weeks. My mother meets me at the airport with food. The Hyderabad crew at Qatar all have the same mother at the same airport.
The Hyderabadi community in Doha
Large, within the larger Indian community that is the biggest nationality at the airline. The Hyderabadi restaurants exist in Doha and they are a battleground, because every Hyderabadi crew member has an opinion about which one does the biryani right and the opinions are not compatible. The Indian crew from the other cities (the Mumbai, the Delhi, the Kerala groups) are drawn into it against their will.
The biryani argument
It is not a joke. It is the thing the Indian crew at Qatar actually argue about in the accommodation kitchens: the Hyderabadi versus the Lucknowi versus the Kolkata versus the Malabar, and the Doha restaurants that claim to do each. The argument has been running for the three years I have been here and it will outlast me. The Pakistani crew have joined it with the Karachi biryani and it has become an international incident.
The honest year three
The economy roster is the mix every economy thread describes. The business course is in sight at the three year mark and the India routes will go with it (business on the India routes is a different cabin). The Hyderabad commute is the thing that keeps the Indian crew in Doha. And the biryani is the thing that keeps the Indian crew together.
For the Hyderabad applicants
The Telugu is an asset on the aircraft, say so. The family at the airport every month is real. The community is waiting with an opinion about the biryani that you will be required to have.
-
#2 Qatar from Mumbai, and the biryani argument is the Indian crew's national sport in Doha and the Mumbai crew are drawn into it exactly as Rahul says, against our will, with no winning position. The Telugu on the Hyderabad route is the asset. The mother at the airport is every Indian crew member's mother.
-
#3 Qatar from Delhi, business, and the India routes in business are the different cabin Rahul mentions: the business travellers to the Gulf and the families who upgraded, and the Hindi is still called to row 1. The biryani argument has a business class chapter.
-
#4 Chennai, aspiring, and the Tamil on the Chennai route as an asset is the thing I did not know to say. The Hyderabad thread has explained the Indian routes for all of us. And the biryani: Chennai has a position and I will bring it.
-
#5 Emirates from Karachi, and the Karachi biryani entering the Doha argument through the Pakistani crew is correct and the Dubai argument has the same shape with the same incompatible positions. The South Asian crew in the Gulf are united by the argument.
-
#6 Kochi, waiting, and the Malabar biryani's position in the Doha argument is noted and will be defended if the call comes. The Malayalam on the Kochi route is the asset. The mother at the airport is already planning the food.
-
#7 Bangalore, and the India routes from economy being the Indian crew's specialism at every Gulf carrier is the thing the Indian applicants should put in the interview: the languages, the row 30 call. Rahul has written the year three the Hyderabad event thread needed.
-
#8 Qatar economy purser, and I put the Indian crew on the India routes for exactly the reason Rahul gives and I have been drawn into the biryani argument as a Jordanian and I have no position and I have been told that is not allowed.
-
#9 @omardoh a Jordanian purser without a biryani position is a vacancy the Hyderabadi crew will fill at the next accommodation dinner. @deepa2002 the Chennai position is welcome and will be opposed.
