Final interview at a legacy European carrier versus a Gulf carrier: the same competency questions scored for different things
-
#1 German, Vueling Barcelona for three years, and before Vueling I passed the Lufthansa final and the Emirates final within four months of each other and chose neither, which is a story for another thread. The thing I learned from doing both is that the questions were almost the same and the scoring was not.
The questions
A difficult customer, a mistake, a team under pressure, a disagreement with a manager, why this airline, why cabin crew. Both panels. The STAR shape expected by both. The depth Keira's thread describes scored by both.
What Lufthansa scored
The process. How I followed the procedure in the story, how I escalated, how I documented. The German panel wrote when I said 'I informed my supervisor and noted it in the log'. The reliability signals: the attendance I mentioned, the years in one job. The German language, obviously, and the register. And the realism about the seniority list: they asked whether I understood I would do short haul for two years and the honest 'yes and I am fine with that' was scored.
What Emirates scored
The warmth. How I made the difficult customer feel, not only what I did. The panel wrote when I said the customer thanked me by name. The family question and the Dubai question, which Lufthansa never asked. The appearance, which Lufthansa checked at the desk and Emirates checked throughout. And the flexibility: 'can you be in Dubai in three months' was a real question with a real score.
The same story, two tellings
My difficult customer story at Lufthansa ended with the procedure followed and the complaint logged. At Emirates it ended with the customer's face. Same story, same actions, two endings, two passes.
For candidates doing both
The Gulf panel wants the person and the warmth and the readiness to move. The legacy European panel wants the process and the reliability and the realism. Prepare the stories with both endings and give each panel the one it is scoring.

#2 Lufthansa Frankfurt, and 'they wrote when I said I noted it in the log' is the Lufthansa panel exactly. The process and the realism about the list. Lena has both panels right and the two endings is the best interview advice on this forum this month.
-
#3 Emirates, and the Emirates panel writing when the customer thanked her by name is the warmth column. The two endings to the same story is the thing I wish someone had told me before Chicago.
-
#4 Recruiter for the Gulf events, and Lena has described the Gulf sheet from the candidate's chair with uncomfortable accuracy. The warmth and the readiness. The legacy European sheet I have not seen and I believe her.
-
#5 Hamburg, applying across the Lufthansa Group and considering the Gulf, and this is the thread that explains why my friend passed Emirates and failed Eurowings with the same stories. Two endings. Thank you.
-
#6 Lufthansa purser, and the 'yes and I am fine with that' to the short haul question is the answer that gets scored at our panel because half the candidates say it and do not mean it. The panel can tell.
-
#7 Iberia, and the Spanish legacy panel is between the two: the process scored and the warmth scored, the Latin America readiness instead of the Dubai one. Lena's framework works for every panel with the endings adjusted.

#8 @jasmin2001 the friend who passed Emirates and failed Eurowings with the same stories is the whole thread in one person. Two endings. The stories were fine.
