#1 Kochi, hotel banquet supervisor, Emirates event in Kochi done and waiting, and the Indian threads on here are Mumbai and Delhi and Bangalore. Kerala sends a huge number of people to the Gulf and the Kochi events are their own thing. Here is what I saw and what the Malayali crew in Dubai told me on the phone.
The Kochi events
Emirates, Qatar and the others hold events in Kochi and Trivandrum regularly because Kerala is the Gulf's oldest labour market and the crew pool is large. The queue at my event was around 300, with a higher share of hospitality experience than the Mumbai threads describe (Kerala's hotel industry is the training ground), and a higher share of people with family already in the Gulf.
What Kerala applicants get wrong at the desk
The photo, as everywhere, and specifically the Kerala studio photo with the heavy retouching and the studio backdrop. Plain, unedited. The English: Kerala's English is strong on paper and the Malayalam accent is not a problem, but the applicants who have only used English in exams freeze in the group task. The passport validity, because a lot of Keralites have passports full of Gulf visit stamps and short validity. And the family question: Kerala families are used to sending people to the Gulf and the applicants sometimes answer 'my family is used to it' as if that ends the question. It does not. The recruiters want your plan, not your family's history.
The Malayali community in Dubai
Huge. The largest Indian community in the UAE by some counts. Restaurants, shops, churches, temples, mosques, the Malayalam newspapers, the Onam celebrations in the crew buildings. A Malayali new joiner in Dubai has a community waiting before she lands. The crew told me it is a comfort and, for some, a trap: the ones who only socialise within the community miss the airline's international side.
The Kochi flight
Daily, four hours, staff travel standby. The Malayali crew go home more often than the Mumbai or Delhi crew because Kochi is closer and the flights are many. The Cairo thread's logic applies: home is a long commute, not a move abroad.
The money home
Kerala runs on Gulf remittances and the crew are part of that. The salary in rupees is transformative for a Kerala family and the crew send a large share. The recruiters know it and it is not held against anyone.
My status
Day 19 after the Kochi final interview. The group chat has two calls so far. The Mumbai thread says day 51 was normal. I am prepared for a long wait and I am telling the Kochi applicants who message me the same: plain photo, used English, a real family plan, a valid passport, and patience.

#2 Indian, Delhi, and the Kerala English point is exactly what my Malayali colleague described: perfect grammar, frozen in the group task. Speak it daily for three months before the event. The accent is fine. The freezing is the problem.

#3 Mumbai, Emirates joiner in five weeks, and the 'my family is used to it' trap is a real Kerala answer and a real Gujarat answer too. The recruiter wants your plan. Say the visits, the calls, the money. Not the history.

#4 Qatar from Delhi, and the Malayali community in Doha is the same: waiting before you land, and a comfort and a trap in equal measure. The best Malayali crew I know use it and also fly with the world.

#5 Bangalore, and the Kochi events having more hospitality experience in the queue is true and it makes them more competitive at the group stage, not less. Kerala's hotels train service properly.

#6 IndiGo Bangalore, and half my base is Malayali and half of them are applying to the Gulf from Kochi rather than Bangalore because the events are more frequent. Ravi's day 19 is early. Patience.

#7 Qatar from Mumbai, and the passport full of Gulf visit stamps with short validity is a Kerala specific problem I had not thought of. Renew before the event. The desk will not wait.

#8 Emirates from Lahore, and the Onam celebrations in the crew buildings are the best parties of the year and the non Malayali crew know it. The community is a gift to the whole building.
