Got the Qatar call on day 27 after Casablanca. What happened on the call, what came in the email, and the next two months in order
-
#1 I wrote up the Casablanca open day in the assessment section and said I was on day 12 and losing my mind. Day 27, 10:15 in the morning, a Doha number, and it happened. So here is the after, for the people still on their day 12, because it turns out the call is the start of a very organised two months.
The call
About eight minutes. A recruiter confirmed my name and date of birth, said I had been successful, asked if I was still interested and available for a joining date window about three months out, and then explained that an email would follow within the hour with the offer and the onboarding portal login. She asked if I had any questions. I had none because I could not think. She said congratulations and that was it. My mother was in the next room and heard the whole thing through the wall.
The email, same day
The offer letter with the grade, the basic, the allowances structure, the accommodation terms and the probation period. A link to the onboarding portal. A list of what to upload and by when. And a joining date window, not a date yet.
The portal, week 1
Upload: passport scan, photos in the required format (different from the open day ones, more specific), the highest education certificate, the police clearance (started it before the open day thanks to this forum, it arrived on day 19), a medical questionnaire, and the signed offer. Everything has a deadline and the portal shows it in red when you are late.
The medical, week 2 to 3
An appointment at a designated clinic in Casablanca, arranged through the portal. Blood tests, a chest X-ray, eyes, hearing, a general exam, and a questionnaire with the doctor. Results go directly to the airline. Mine took nine days to come back as cleared. This is the part where the friend of a friend stories start; the reality is that most people pass and the ones who do not are told what the issue is and whether it is fixable.
The visa and the joining date, week 4 to 6
After the medical clears, the airline starts the Qatar work visa. You send more documents (an attested certificate in my case, which took a trip to two ministries). Then the portal shows a confirmed joining date and, a week or so later, the flight booking. Mine is in five weeks from today.
What I am doing now
The things this forum told me to do and I am glad I listened: sorting the money for the first month (you are paid at the end of the first month, and the first weeks in Doha have costs), a real conversation with my family about calls and visits, learning some kitchen Arabic dialect differences (Moroccan Arabic and Gulf Arabic are not the same and the crew say the Gulf passengers notice), and reading the Doha threads properly instead of the Instagram accounts.
For the day 12 people
Day 27 for me. Day 34 for someone else from the same event who got her call yesterday. The batching is real. The silence is not a no. And when it comes, the two months after are organised enough that you will not have time to be nervous.
Thank you to everyone who answered my earlier thread. This is me paying it forward.

#2 Same Casablanca event and I got mine on day 31, three days after yours. Everything Sara describes is what my portal looks like today. The attested certificate is the thing to start now, it is the slowest step. Congratulations, and see you in Doha.
-
#3 Moroccan, three years in, and the Moroccan Arabic versus Gulf Arabic point is one every North African crew learns in week one. Learn the greetings and the numbers the Gulf way before you arrive. The passengers smile when you do.
-
#4 Tunis to Doha, and the 'paid at the end of the first month' warning is the one that catches people. Bring enough for four weeks. The company gives an initial allowance but it does not stretch to everything.
-
#5 @laylafree that is exactly what I am budgeting for. How much did you bring, roughly, if you are happy to say?
-
#7 Casablanca last year, and reading this brought it all back. The portal in red. The medical wait. The flight booking appearing. It is a good two months. Enjoy them, they are the last ones where Doha is still an idea.
-
#8 Air Algérie, still deciding about the Gulf, and this thread is the most useful thing I have read about what actually happens after the call. Saved.
-
#9 Durban, Joburg open day next month, and I have now read your before and after. It is the full story. Thank you for writing both halves.
