Swimming requirement, I can't swim. How bad is this?

#1 In Air Canada initial training, wet drill in two weeks. I can float badly and panic-swim about 10 metres. Everyone says "you don't have to be fast" but how much do you actually have to do?

#2 Typically 25-50 metres unaided, then tread water for a minute or two, then board the raft. Not fast, not pretty, just unpanicked. Two weeks is enough to get there with 5-6 pool sessions: focus on breathing and floating on your back first. Instructors coach hard before failing anyone, and weak swimmers usually get a second attempt.

#3 I was you six months ago. Booked adult lessons, 4 sessions, and the wet drill was genuinely the most fun day of training. The raft boarding is the hard part physically, not the swim.

#4 Update: 40 metres yesterday without stopping. Ugly, slow, alive. Thank you both.
