Failed at the group stage twice, what am I doing wrong?
-
#1 Two assessment days (easyJet and Jet2), both times cut after the group exercise. I'm friendly, I talk, I contribute ideas. Feedback isn't given. What are the classic reasons people get cut there?
-
#2 Having assessed these: the two guaranteed cuts are the dominator and the ghost. "I talk, I contribute ideas", count them. If you're making 8 points in 20 minutes at a table of 8, you're the dominator even if you're lovely about it.
Try this next time: 3-4 contributions max, and at least one is "I think Sarah's idea works, and we could add…". Then ask the quietest person what they think. That single move is what assessors write down.
-
#3 This was me. Got through on the third try after I forced myself to speak second, not first, and to keep a pen and paper so I looked like I was listening instead of waiting to talk.

#4 Also watch your face during other people's turns. Assessors look at the listeners, not the speaker. Eye-rolling, checking the clock, leaning back, all noted.
