Solo layovers: staying safe and not lonely when the crew doesn't go out

#1 A question for when I start: on layovers where the crew are tired and nobody goes out, how do you handle a day alone in a strange city safely?

#2 Tell the purser or a colleague where you're going and when you'll be back, use the hotel's taxi or a ride app, keep your phone charged, daylight only in unfamiliar cities, and pick one specific thing, a museum, a walk, a market, rather than wandering. Plenty of crew love the solo layovers; you get very good at your own company. And the crew WhatsApp usually has one person who'll say yes to a coffee.

#3 Also: the hotel gym and pool are the default social spaces. Half my crew friendships started at a hotel pool.
