Notice periods and resigning from a Gulf carrier, what you must know before you sign

Ex Etihad, and I get this question from people planning their exit before they have joined, which is smart. Gulf contracts have notice periods (typically one to three months depending on grade) and can have conditions on leaving early in the first years around training costs. Housing ends with employment, visa cancellation has a timeline, and your final settlement includes end of service benefits which grow with years served. Read all of that before signing, keep copies, and when you resign do it in writing with dates. The process is orderly if you are.

End of service benefit is the thing people forget to count. Six years at EK, it was a nice cheque.

Reading exit advice before I have even started. This forum is thorough.
