Comparing US majors with Gulf carriers for a friend. What does a first-year United flight attendant actually make?

Hourly rate in the high $30s for year one under the new contract, boarding pay, per diem, and a reserve guarantee of roughly 70+ hours. After tax in Houston it's liveable; in Newark or San Francisco it's a crash-pad life for the first year or two. No housing provided, unlike the Gulf. Gulf tax-free plus housing usually wins on savings in the first three years; the US majors win from year five onward with seniority, and the career can be 30 years.

That's a fair comparison. Different curves, Gulf is front-loaded, US majors are back-loaded.
