SIA grades explained: Flight Stewardess → Leading → Chief, timelines and pay bands
-
#1 The ladder people ask about: Flight Steward/Stewardess (entry), Leading Steward/Stewardess (typically 5+ years, after checks), Chief Steward/Stewardess (8-15 years), then In-flight Manager. Each grade has its own kebaya colour, which is why passengers can read the hierarchy on board. Pay grows meaningfully with each grade; the senior figures quoted on this site apply at Chief level and above, more than double an entry salary. Promotion is on performance checks and time, not seniority alone.

#2 The kebaya colour hierarchy is such an elegant system compared to our almost-identical uniforms.
