Suggestion: link glossary terms from forum posts automatically, so an applicant reading 'FTL' or 'SEP' or 'per diem' can tap it and get the definition in
-
#1 Lyon, hotel school, applying next year, and I have spent four months reading this forum and the site's glossary side by side in two tabs, because the threads use the industry words (FTL, SEP, per diem, the golden call, the reach test, the wet drill, the number one, the purser, the CCA, the Tarifvertrag) and the glossary explains them and the two are not connected.
The suggestion
When a forum post contains a term that exists in the site's glossary, make the first occurrence in the post a link to the glossary page, or a small underline that shows the short definition on tap, without leaving the thread. The glossary already has 150 terms and the threads use most of them. The applicant reading the FTL thread on the rights board would get the FTL definition in one tap and the crew writing the thread would not have to explain it every time.
Why it matters
The forum's best threads are written by crew for crew and the applicants are half the readers. The crew use the words naturally and the applicants look them up or guess. The glossary is the site's answer and it is one click too far away. The link would make the forum readable for the new applicant without making the crew write for the applicant.
The details
First occurrence only, so the post does not become a wall of links. The short definition on tap rather than a page change, if that is possible, because leaving the thread to read a definition loses the place. The link styled quietly (a dotted underline, not the blue link) so it does not compete with the real links in the post. The terms matched on the whole word so 'SEP' matches and 'September' does not. The crew who do not want it could have a setting, but I suspect the crew would like it too, because the Tarifvertrag thread explains the word in every reply.
What I am not asking for
Not a change to the threads or the posting. Not a glossary popup on every word. Just the bridge between the two best things on the site, which I have been building by hand in two tabs for four months.

#2 Thank you, this is a well described suggestion and the two tabs observation is exactly the gap. The glossary and the forum share the same database, so matching whole word terms on the first occurrence and showing the short definition on tap is feasible. We have added it to the list and will post on the 'which suggestions got built' thread when it is done. The dotted underline and the whole word match are the right details.

#3 Lufthansa, roster nerd, and the Tarifvertrag explained in every reply is my fault and I would stop if the word linked itself. The crew would like it too. Good suggestion from the applicant side, and the first occurrence only is the right restraint.

#4 Leeds, aspiring, and the two tabs is exactly how I read this forum and I did not think to ask for the bridge. The short definition on tap without leaving the thread is the thing. Seconded from the applicant side.

#5 French carrier, union rep, and the FTL thread readers who do not know what FTL is are half the thread's readers and the glossary definition on tap would make the rights board usable for the applicants. Seconded from the crew side. The whole word match matters for the French acronyms too.

#6 easyJet training, and the training threads use SEP, the wet drill, the demo, the arming, the cross check, and I learned them from the glossary in a second tab in my first week. The link would have saved me the week. Seconded.

#7 @admin thank you, and the 'which suggestions got built' thread is the right place to hear about it. @hannahfra the Tarifvertrag explanations are useful, the link would just mean you could choose when to give them.
