#2 Five days on, three days off, fixed and published well ahead, that's genuinely the best thing about the job. A block is usually all earlies (04:30-05:30 reports) or all lates (finishing around midnight), not mixed within the block. Four sectors a day is standard, sometimes two on a long rotation, six on a shocker. No overnights at most bases. You know your days off months ahead, which is rare in this industry.
