Qatar Airways crew accommodation 2026: the buildings, sharing rules, the curfew that is not called a curfew, inspections and the housing allowance
-
#1 QR business class, and the accommodation question is the second most asked one from the new joiners after the salary. The information in the applicant groups is years out of date and mixes the old curfew stories with the current rules. Here is the 2026 picture from someone who lives in it and has friends in every building.
The buildings
Company accommodation in several compounds and towers across Doha: the older ones near the old airport area, the newer ones in the Pearl direction and in the newer districts. The new joiners are allocated, not asked. The flat is furnished (bed, wardrobe, desk, the shared kitchen and living area), the utilities are paid, the transport to and from the airport is the crew bus from each building. The quality varies by building and the allocation is luck.
The sharing
Most new joiners share: two or three bedrooms in a flat, one crew member per bedroom, the kitchen and the living area shared. The flatmates are allocated and are usually from different nationalities on purpose. Single accommodation comes with seniority and with the business and first class grades at some buildings. The sharing is the biggest adjustment for the ones who have never shared and the smallest for the ones who grew up sharing.
The curfew that is not called a curfew
There is no stated curfew in 2026. There are visitor rules: no overnight guests who are not crew, the visitor sign in at the reception in the towers with security, the quiet hours. The old stories of the midnight check are from before and the new joiners who arrive braced for them find the visitor rules instead, which are enforced, mostly through the reception sign in. The rule that actually ends contracts is the overnight guest one, the same as at Emirates.
The inspections
Periodic, announced, for the maintenance and the cleanliness, and the crew who keep the flat reasonably clean never notice them. The stories of surprise inspections for guests are from the earlier years. The inspections now are the maintenance ones.
The housing allowance option
After a period (it has moved and the current rule is in the policy, roughly after the first year or two depending on grade), crew can opt out of the company accommodation and take the housing allowance and rent privately. The allowance covers a shared private flat comfortably and a studio in the cheaper districts tightly, and the crew who take it do so for the freedom from the sharing and the visitor rules. Many do not, because the free accommodation with no bills is the biggest saving in the package.
What the new joiners actually get
A furnished bedroom in a shared flat in an allocated building, the utilities paid, the crew bus, the visitor rules, the reception. No rent, no bills, no commute cost. It is the thing that makes the Doha package what it is and the sharing is the price.
For the applicants
Expect to share. Expect the visitor rules and respect the overnight one. Keep the flat clean and the inspections are nothing. Take the allowance later only if the freedom is worth more than the saving, and do the maths before you do, because the saving is large.

#2 Three years, from Liverpool, and the curfew that is not called a curfew is exactly right: the applicants arrive braced for a midnight check and find a reception sign in instead. The overnight guest rule is the one that matters and it is enforced through the sign in. Aisha has the 2026 version.

#3 Two years, from Adelaide, and the sharing with two allocated flatmates from different nationalities was the adjustment of my first six months and is now the best part of Doha. The allocation is luck and mine was good. The housing allowance maths is the thing I will do at the two year mark.

#4 Two years, from Alexandria, and the inspections being the maintenance ones and not the guest ones is true and the new joiners should stop fearing them. Keep the kitchen clean. Aisha's building paragraph (the quality varies, the allocation is luck) is honest.
-
#5 Two years, from Hyderabad, and the free accommodation with no bills being the biggest saving in the package is the thing the Hyderabad applicants should understand when they compare the Qatar basic to the Indian carriers: the Doha number is the number after rent. Aisha has said it.

#6 Since 2021, and the housing allowance after the period being a freedom versus saving decision is exactly how the crew talk about it, and most of my batch stayed in the company accommodation for the saving. The ones who left for the allowance did it for the visitor rules. Both are fine.

#7 Nairobi, Qatar event next month, and the accommodation question is the one my mother asks and this thread is the answer I will show her: the furnished room, the utilities paid, the crew bus, the visitor rules, the security reception. Thank you from the Nairobi applicants.

#8 Since 2020, and the old curfew stories being from before is the correction the applicant groups need every year. The 2026 rules are the visitor rules and the sign in, and the overnight guest rule is the contract ender, as Aisha says and as Emirates has too. Pin this for the next intake.
