QR ultra long haul: Auckland and the Americas, how the rest works
-
#1 LATAM here doing Sydney and Melbourne from Santiago. Curious how Qatar handles the 16 to 17 hour sectors. Rest periods on board, days off after, how do you cope?
-
#2 Augmented crew, two rest periods in the crew rest compartment, around three and a half hours each on the longest sectors. Extra days off after a ULR rotation are built into the roster. Coping: anchor sleep before, no caffeine in the last hours before your rest slot, compression socks, and accepting that the second rest never feels like real sleep. The Auckland layover is long so you recover there.

#3 Very similar to ours then. The 'second rest never feels like real sleep' is universally true.
