#1 Three years in and still get asked by newer crew. Roughly:
Grade II is economy, where everyone starts. Grade I is still economy but a step up in pay after your first checks. Business class grade after a couple of years and a successful check flight. First class grade needs a selection process. Then Purser, then Cabin Manager on the A380. Each grade is a pay bump and a different position on board. The move to business is the one that changes your days most, fewer passengers, more wine knowledge, more paperwork with the purser. Time frames vary with how fast the airline is growing.

#2 Good summary. I'd add that the business upgrade course is a proper course with a service exam, not just a check flight. People underestimate the wine part.

#4 Two to three depending on how many people are ahead of you and whether the fleet is growing. Faster lately.
